Nucleosynthesis in massive stars revisited
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have performed the first calculations to follow the evolution of all stable nuclei and their radioactive progenitors in a finely-zoned stellar model computed from the onset of central hydrogen burning through explosion as a Type II supernova. Calculations were done for 15 M⊙, 20 M⊙, and 25 M⊙ Pop I stars using the most recently available set of experimental and theoretical nuclear data, revised opacity tables, and taking into account mass loss due to stellar winds. Here results are presented for one 15 M⊙ model.

New Results on Nucleosynthesis in Massive Stars; Nuclear Data Needs for Nucleosynthesis
We review the current status of the nuclear reaction rates needed to study nucleosynthesis in massive stars. Results for the calculated nucleosynthesis of all stable species from Hydrogen to Bismuth in a completely evolved 25 M star of initial solar metallicity will be presented. Special emphasis will be paid to two particular reactions, C( ) O and Ne( ) Mg, and their effect on the structure of...
متن کاملDependence of S-process Nucleosynthesis in Massive Stars on Triple-alpha and C(α, Γ)o Reaction Rate Uncertainties
We have studied the sensitivity of s-process nucleosynthesis in massive stars to ±2σ variations in the rates of the triple-α and C(α, γ)O reactions. We simulated the evolution of massive stars from H-burning through Fe-core collapse, followed by a supernova explosion. We found that: the production factors of s-process nuclides between Fe and Zr change strongly with changes in the He burning rea...
متن کاملRadioactive 26Al from the Scorpius-Centaurus association
Context. The Scorpius-Centaurus association is the most-nearby group of massive and young stars. As nuclear-fusion products are ejected by massive stars and supernovae into the surrounding interstellar medium, the search for characteristic γ-rays from radioactivity is one way to probe the history of activity of such nearby massive stars on a My time scale through their nucleosynthesis. 26Al dec...
متن کاملCNO elements
Using the standard infall model of Galactic chemical evolution, we explore the origin of carbon and calculate the abundance evolution of CNO elements for 8 different models of stellar nucleosynthesis yields. The results show that, in the early stage of the Galaxy, massive stars are the main producer of carbon, and that as our Galaxy evolves to the late stage, the longer lived intermediate-and l...
متن کاملThe Dawes Review 2: Nucleosynthesis and stellar yields of low and intermediate-mass single stars
The chemical evolution of the Universe is governed by the chemical yields from stars, which in turn is determined primarily by the initial stellar mass. Even stars as low as 0.9M⊙ can, at low metallicity, contribute to the chemical evolution of elements. Stars less massive than about 10M⊙ experience recurrent mixing events that can significantly change the surface composition of the envelope, w...
